K-Fam rides again!

We’re back from the shores of Arrow Lake. After 11 months of recovery from the last trip, dad convinced the crew to saddle up once more. Ash’s only demand was that we don’t ride south.  Jonas insisted on grandma and grandpa support, Ginette insisted no hills.  So why not a Kootenay loop?  Pancake flat, avoiding the desert, and grandma and grandpa joining us for the first few days.  All smiles.

Except Ginette, for some reason she doubted it would be flat.

Day 1: kelowna to cherryville. 118.5km
What a start. All smiles for the first 60 km, including some nice riding on the rail trail.

Lunch at Alexander’s pub in Vernon, then east on highway 6.  Weather was good but hills picked up as we approached Cherryville.  118.5 km was the longest day ash/jon/Ginette had ever put in the saddle.  On the last climb ash rode ahead, early shot across the bow of the peleton.  Great to arrive to dinner ready to go.
Beautiful campsite for our first night, in spite of sudden downpour at bedtime.

On the road again at 8:45 for another challenging day, 98km over the monashee pass, across needles ferry, and on to Burton historical campground.  Pop quiz: what is the difference between a family of four on bikes sleeping in 2 2-man tents vs a family of four with a truck, 21’ trailer and outdoor kitchen?   If you guessed the family with 2 2-mantents pays an extra $30 you would be right!

Jonas started the day taking all KOM points available. But once again, ash proved to have the strongest legs in the peleton, shattering the morale of her family as she pulled away on the climb out of Edgewood.
The day was beautiful but the km’s were challenging.  Stay tuned for the next instalment of K-Fam rides again.... will ash continue her dominance? Will Jonas re-find his early season form? Will Ginette forgive Brent for underestimating the hills?

All excellent stuff though I'd appreciate the REAL names of these places. Arrow Lake? Edgewood? Cherryville? They must have tricky Nlaka'pamux names you couldn't spell.
