And we're done!
With guest blogger/writer Ashleigh!
Wow! I cannot believe it's been 5 days already. After having to skip yesterday's ride due to heat sickness/general malaise, I was determined to do the ride today, and I did it! We all did it. We started off the day cruising around part of Lake Chelan.
Next was a big climb which was not the best for right in the morning, but we knew that it was better at the beginning when we were well rested. Although, after that treacherous climb, we had a soothing and cooling descent with a weird-smelling tunnel to forgive dad after taking us on that hill. We continued our fairly flat journey all the way to the outskirts of Entriat where we read this pretty cool sign about an earthquake in 1872.
We took this picture near the earthquake point.
In Entriat we stopped for a snack and water at a gas station, then had some flat, some up and some down. About half an hour after we had left the gas station, dad, Jonas and I had stopped for water. Jonas then asks where's mom.... and we loook behind where we can see about a mile back, and she is nowhere to be seen. Dad tells us to stay there while he goes back and looks for mom. So we waited.... and waited.... and then suddenly mom hollers at us from the truck on the road "meet us up ahead!" So we get back on our bikes and meet them there, where dads meets us 5 minutes later.
Here's a picture of a river:
So turns out mom had a flat and was walking for about 10 minutes while we kept getting further and further away. And then when grandma and grandpa drove by her, they picked her up and put the bike in the back just as dad rode up.
Dad switched the tube with a spare one we had, then we got up again on our way. Man there was so much heat!!! Although we were very thankful for the overcast, it was so hot! We rode into the edge of Wenatchee and the sun was just beating down! But we carried on with only 40 minutes left until lunch.
With the heat dying down and head winds picked up, we stopped for lunch in Cashmere at a diner called 59er.
After lunch, we had about an hour to go. The head winds had died down and there was lots of clouds, but it was hot! We trekked through the heat, struggling up one final climb....
... and finally making it Leavenworth! Finally! We entered Leavenworth with our own cheering squad made up of 4 old(er) grandparents. We rode unto the site, sat down, and reflected on the journey we just went through!

Ashleigh should make "Here's a picture of a (insert random person/place/thing here)" a running theme.
Have a good evening wherever you are now...
For the sake of Canadian history; I will now endeavor to point out the plethora of S.O.S. signals within this specific blog.
1. Her opening line was humble and optimistic. "Wow! I cannot believe it's been 5 days already," wrote Ashleigh. But what she truly meant was: Egad! I cannot believe it's ONLY been 5 days...it feels like 5 years.
2. Next, She is a word-smith; her calculated usage of: treacherous, forgive [dad], earthquake, hollers, waited, heat, struggling, grandparents. Clearly, the message is crystal clear. Dad promised a highway of heaven, but delivered a highway of living.....
3. Her choice of visual signs i.e. pictures was, likewise, telling. A cry for help behind the: brooding clouds, earthquake memorials, nervous smiles & sunglasses hiding eyes of contempt and fear.
But, alas, in her own words...she was "determined." Yes, determined, against all odds, with courage to expose the man who forced them to ride through rancid smelling tunnels. The man who forgot his wife, their mother, an entire mile behind!
We can only be comforted by the fact that Jonas (the warrior who will conquer Texas on a 10-speed) had the loving intuition, and compassion, to cry out, "Where's MOM??" As if to say: Where is the one who has nurtured, and cared for, me all these years? I sense she doth not ride among us! My Mommy is nowhere to be seen!! We must do something, for I fear dear sister the Emperor will do nothing!
Brent aka. The Emperor...has no clothes. But he is clothed in a, guilt-ridden, mess of spare tires and shame!
GO TEAM-K!!!
