Second day adventure; a beautiful journey
With guest blogger, ash!
Well, we have made it through day two, and what a beautiful journey!
We started off the day with a delicious French Toast breakfast (special thanks to Grandma), packed up, and then departed for another day's ride at 9:30. After riding along the bumpy KVR, we rode through the tiny town of Kaleden and couldn't believe the beautiful unknown building. With the green vines creeping up the sides of the building, and the arched "windows", this structure was something special:
We were and still aren't quite sure what this was, but it sure was an incredible sight. With the KVR coming to an end, we took a picture of us riding (after some stopping, arguing, and being in the way of other people)
We also took a pic of us stopped on the bridge.
Uu
At the end of the KVR, we took off and rode on the highway past Tickleberry's (we had already had a massive cone the previous night), and onto Lake Vaseaux. We stopped at the end of the lake and felt the refreshing water with our hands, then got back up in the bikes and got back on the highway. The flat ride and minor tail winds made it an easy journey to Oliver. Once in the outskirts of Oliver, we stopped at a gas station to get water, then got back on our way.
We kept riding flat again, until we got to hospital hill. Dad told us it was going to be the toughest hill of the day, which it was, but he told us it was called hospital hill because 1 in every 3 riders had to be taken to the hospital. I may not have fully believed him, but I was still concerned about the hill. Once the hill was nearing, dad told us that it was actually called hospital hill because there was literally a hospital built right beside the hill. After making it up (certainly and solely on the power of bunny lebowskis's toe) we realized it was not as bad as some of the other hills we had done yesterday
Having met the top with pride and thankfulness for the power the tow granted us with, we took in the steep down hills, then beautiful rolling hills all the way to Osoyoos. While on that journey to Osoyoos, we saw winery after winery. It was gorgeous! With the mountains and wineries combined the sight was breathtaking. We past the Burrowing Owl winery, Church and State winery and many more all on this Black Sage road. Once all wineries had gone we found a high-flowing river and cute classic bridge that we crossed.
Once making it into Osoyoos, we planned to eat at Campo Marina, an Italian family restaurant, but it was closed so we went to an authentic and quiet pizzeria. The pizzas were good! We stopped to get some water and some butt butter, and then we were off to the border.
With the border behind us we rode on flat pavement again with winds. Mom saying head winds, dad saying tail winds. We finished our ride with a small decent into the campground and then a relaxing swim in the lake. It was a wonderful 68.9 km day, with the brilliant sun shining and lots of sights to see.
At the end of the ride, we realized that on a bike there are certain things you see that you would not see other wise. The beautiful building in Kaleden, the endless beautiful wineries, and the cute horse we saw rolling on its back near Osoyoos. What a wonderful realization!
